| Tower Records | | " In 1960, long-time music buff Russ Solomon (pictured left, 1964) had a sound idea -- he started selling records out of his father’s drugstore, located in the town of Sacramento, California. It didn’t take long for Mr. Solomon to make Tower Records a household name, and today Tower stands as a leader in the music industry: from humble beginnings an American pioneer arose to promote emerging artists and established stars. The innovative history of Tower Records continued, when in 1967, while some recording artists were lamenting about leaving their "heart in San Francisco,” Russ was opening up shop at the corner of Bay and Columbus. The San Francisco store proved to be a hit with its “supermarket” style record merchandising, and paved the way to “tinsel town” for Tower Sunset, in 1969. By now Russ was setting his sites for new markets abroad. " more

| Time-Life.com | | | " Founded in 1961 as the book division of Time Inc., Time-Life took its name from Time Inc.'s cornerstone magazines, Time and Life, but remained independent of both. By 1966, Time-Life combined its book offerings with music collections (two to five records) and packaged them as a sturdy box set. Throughout the '70s and '80s, the selection of books, music, and then video grew, diversifying into all genres. When record labels stopped producing vinyl albums in 1990, Time-Life switched to CD only. At the end of 2003, Time-Life was acquired by Ripplewood Holdings L.L.C. and ZelnickMedia Corporation and combined with Lillian Vernon Corporation to form Direct Holdings Worldwide L.L.C.(...) Today, Time-Life is one of the world's pre-eminent creators and direct marketers of unique book, music, video/DVD, and multimedia products. The Time-Life name is one of the most recognized and trusted brands in existence today. Its products are sold throughout North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia through television, print, retail, the Internet, telemarketing, and direct sales. " more about Time-Life

| Schott Musik International | | " The Schott publishing house was founded by Bernhard Schott (1748 - 1809) in Mainz in 1770, the year of Beethoven’s birth. The building, dated and now under a preservation order, is still the company’s head office. At the time of the foundation of the publishing house, Mainz boasted a flourishing cultural life and a busy court chapel. In 1780 Bernhard Schott was awarded the ’privilegium exclusivum’ together with the title of ’Court music engraver’. This meant that within the boundaries of the electorate of Mainz no third party was allowed to re-engrave or sell the works produced by him. Schott was one of the first publishers to use the printing technique of lithography, which meant that his editions were soon being printed and distributed on a wide scale." (...) Schott’s prestigious 20th century publishing programme, now known as Music of Our Time, was initiated by the publication of works by Igor Stravinsky, a close friend of Willi and Ludwig Strecker for many years. Schott published major works, from early orchestral works such as Feu d’artifice and Scherzo fantastique and the complete L’oiseau de feu (The Firebird) to the Violin Concerto, Symphony in C and Symphony in Three Movements. Schott also published several major score of Arnold Schoenberg, including Moses und Aron and Von Heute auf Morgen." ... more about Schott Musik International
